Hugh Jackman asks Academy not to nominate Ryan Reynolds for best song

Hugh Jackman jokingly begged the Academy to not nominate Ryan Reynolds’ “Good Afternoon” in the best song category amid their decade-long fake feud.

“Hey everybody it’s 2023, and I really really wanted to send out a positive message at the beginning of the year, but recent events have made that impossible,” Jackman, 54, began in a video posted to social media on Wednesday.

The “Greatest Showman” star then explained that while he and his family “loved” “Spirited,” he’s still not onboard for the song to receive an Oscar nomination.

Jackman continued, “Now Ryan Reynolds getting a nomination in the best song category would make the next year of my life insufferable.”

The “Music Man” actor further explained that working with Reynolds, 46, on the third “Deadpool” movie would be “impossible” if he got the nom.

“It would be a problem,” he concluded. “So just to recap — love ‘Spirited,’ love Will, love Octavia [Spencer], love the song, ‘Good Afternoon,’ love Benj [Pasek] and Justin [Paul], but please, please from the bottom of my heart — do not validate Ryan Reynolds in this way, please.”

Following Jackman’s jabs, Reynolds also took to social media to respond to his frenemy.

“I know it’s still early but Good Afternoon to you, Mr. Jackman,” Reynolds wrote.

(In the movie, “Good Afternoon” meant “F–k you” as the musical number took place in the 1800s).

The “Red Notice” actor also shot back at Jackman on Twitter for dissing the time he and Ferrell, 55, put into learning how to sing and dance for the musical.

“Disagree. I think the deepfakes that sung and danced for Will and I would love to perform at the Oscars,” Reynolds sarcastically tweeted.

Jackman and Reynolds have been fake feuding since beginning their superhero journey in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” in 2008 and neither one of them has been afraid to take the occasional jab at the other.
