Lance Reddick made eerie comments about his late “The Wire” co-star Michael K. Williams just one day before his own sudden passing.
Reddick was found dead in his Studio City, Calif., home on Friday of “natural causes,” according to his reps. He was 60.
Meanwhile, Williams was 54 when he suffered a fatal overdose in his New York City penthouse in September 2021.
“I just couldn’t believe it. I mean, I knew when we were on ‘The Wire’ that he struggled with [addiction]. And I only knew it because he told me,” Reddick shared with Radio Andy’s Bevy Smith on Thursday.
“But quite frankly, Michael and I didn’t stay in touch,” he continued. “So, because of the trajectory of his career, it never occurred to me that that was still going on.”
Reddick said “the last time” he saw Williams was in February 2020 at the American Black Film Festival, where their Baltimore-based HBO series — which ran from 2002 to 2008 — won the award for Best Classic TV Show.

“Except for the gray and the white in his beard, I mean, he still looked like he was 30 years old,” the “John Wick” star told host Smith, adding that he recalled thinking to himself, “‘What is this guy eating? Because I want some of that.’
“So, the notion that he was struggling with drugs and that he died suddenly and that he died that way was just shocking to me.”
Despite the fact that the actors “didn’t work together very often,” Reddick said he and Williams “spoke enough times” for him to know that he “was just such a genuine guy.”
“And here’s another thing,” he noted, “when I felt like I was floundering in my career shortly after ‘The Wire,’ I called him, and he helped me. And you don’t forget that.”
Reddick is survived by his second wife, Stephanie, and two children he shared with his late first wife, Suzanne: a daughter named Yvonne and a son named Christopher.
