After almost tripping onstage during the Academy Awards on Sunday night, Elizabeth Banks ditched her shoes altogether when she exited the Oscars.
During the ceremony, the “Cocaine Bear” director tripped on the hem of her dress on the stage as she did a bit with an actor in a bear costume before presenting the Best Visual Effects awared.
“Hit the mark,” Banks, 49, said to the anonymous person in the bear getup as they appeared together, before she said of the faux grizzly, “Oh, my God — he tripped me!”
Spies later saw Banks exiting the Dolby Theatre venue — and she was walking out in bare feet and carrying her shoes.
The Dolby is inside the sprawling Ovation Hollywood mall and entertainment complex, which also houses 70 shops and 25 restaurants, plus the famed TCL Chinese Theater — so it was odd to see the star walking out barefoot into the mall, spies said.
She then made her way back out of the venue via the red carpet.
Then again, uncomfortable footwear was a theme of the evening: Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis was spotted in the audience without her shoes on, and Monica Lewinsky was overheard saying at Vanity Fair’s Oscar party at about 1 a.m. that she’d been in heels since arriving at the magazine’s starry dinner and screening at 4:30 p.m.
Banks also said when she was presenting the award: “Without visual effects, this is what the bear would look like.”
She then joked to the costumed character: “No director wants to deal with this. What are you doing? Stop it, put your paw down, are you trying to score right now? You need to wait for the afterparty like everybody else.”
There was no word who was in the bear suit.
